Filter Twitter/X Posts by Content Type and Media

Redact doesn't only delete tweets. Retweets, replies, quote tweets, X Articles, and likes are all first-class, and you choose which to wipe and which to keep in a single click. Layer media filters on top to target posts by what they contain: images, videos, or links.

Why filter instead of nuking everything

Media posts carry the most exposure

Photos and videos leak more than text does, and they're buried across years of timeline where you'll never scroll to them. Targeting by type and media lets you remove the riskiest posts without losing the account you want to keep.

01

Keep what works, drop the rest

Remove only retweets, only replies, or only old media while protecting your best originals and every X Article you've published. One pass, no collateral damage.

02

Images carry hidden personal data

Old photo tweets capture faces, locations, and routines you'd rather not leave public. Removing them in bulk shrinks the profile a stranger can build from your account.

03

Your video is AI training material

If a video features you, your likeness can be pulled into models that generate video. Clearing old video posts limits what can be scraped.

04

Find what you never could manually

X gives you no way to list every post with a video, or every retweet with a link. Redact does, then deletes the whole set at once instead of one tap at a time.

What this feature does

Filter by content type and media

Most cleanup tools treat your account as one undifferentiated pile of tweets. Redact doesn't. Pick exactly which content types to remove, then narrow further by what each post contains. The two filters stack, so you can be as broad or as surgical as you want.

Delete only your retweets and keep every original. Clear every quote tweet. Keep every X Article you've published while wiping the rest. Then layer media on top: wipe every video tweet from 2020, or delete only retweets that contain external links. Your deletions run locally on your device, with a preview before anything is removed.

The media filters

Require, or protect, posts by attribute

After you pick your content types, add an attribute filter. Redact will either delete only posts that carry that attribute, or shield those posts from the batch. Stack the filters with date ranges, keywords, hashtags, and link domains for precise control.

Image

Delete only posts with attached photos, or keep them while wiping the rest.

Video

Target every post carrying video, the highest-exposure media on your account.

Link

Clear posts that contain external links, down to specific domains.

Content type

Tweets, retweets, quote tweets, replies, X Articles, or likes, in any mix.

Date range

Combine with Before, After, Between, or All Time to scope by era.

Preserve lists

Whitelist accounts, hashtags, and phrases so safe posts always survive.

Step-by-step guide

How to delete tweets by type or media with Redact

The same flow works whether you're clearing retweets, quote tweets, photo tweets, or video posts. Pick your targets, preview, and run.

  1. 1

    Download Redact for free

Install Redact on your device. It runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux, plus iOS and Android.

    Download for your device →
  2. 2

    Connect your Twitter/X account

Open Redact, choose Twitter/X, and link your account securely. Your credentials are sent straight to Twitter/X and never touch a Redact server.

  3. 3

Pick your content types and media attribute

In the Twitter/X section, select what to delete: tweets, retweets, quote tweets, replies, X Articles, or likes. Then add an attribute under Attributes to Require to narrow the batch.

    • Image: delete only posts with attached photos.
    • Video: delete only posts carrying video.
    • Link: delete only posts with external links, by domain if you want.

More than 1,000 posts? Twitter/X enforces limits that slow live deletion of large histories. Request your Twitter archive, then import the .zip into Redact's desktop app to run an order of magnitude faster. Archive import is a Premium feature.

  4. 4

    Preview the matches

Run a Preview to see exactly which posts your filters caught, and exclude any you want to keep. Whitelist accounts, hashtags, or phrases so safe media always survives the batch.

  5. 5

    Delete, then confirm

Click Start Deletion and Redact removes every matching post, showing progress in real time. When it finishes, check your profile to confirm the media tweets are gone. To stay clean, save the filter as a Schedule and Redact handles new matches automatically.

Your posts never leave your device

Redact talks straight to Twitter/X from your computer or phone, so your posts and your login never pass through a Redact server. It uses the minimum access needed to carry out your deletions, and you can disconnect X at any time.
