Disappearing Mode is designed to give you even more control over your online presence by enabling automatic deletion of posts, messages, comments and more across our most popular deletion social media platforms.

Step 4: Customise Your Auto-Deletion Rules

After selecting a service, you’ll be prompted to choose which content types you want to delete.

Each platform has slightly different content types, but in general, you’re picking between posts, comments, likes, tweets, tags and messages.

On Discord, you’ll need to select message types, and the servers and channels you want to enable auto-deletion for.

Step 5: Set Your Preservation Window

After you’ve picked content types, set your preservation window. This determines the period of time that content will exist for, before self-destruction.

You can pick any number of weeks, days, or hours for disappearing mode, at a minimum of 24 hours.

Step 6: Set Additional Settings

If you’re using an hourly preservation window, you’ll be able to delete content more often – if this is selected, Redact will check for new content every hour.

Why Auto-Delete Your Social Media Content?

There are many compelling reasons to leverage automatic deletion:

  • Enhanced Privacy: Reduce the amount of personal information and past opinions lingering online.
  • Improved Digital Hygiene: Keep your profiles clean and focused on your current self.
  • Peace of Mind: Avoid potential future scrutiny or misinterpretations of older posts.
  • Platform-Specific Needs: Different platforms have different contexts. You might want to keep your recent professional tweets but automatically clear out older, more casual ones.

Important Considerations:

  • Deletion is Permanent: Once content is automatically deleted by redact.dev, it is generally unrecoverable. Please double-check your settings to ensure you’re comfortable with the deletion rules you’ve set.
  • Platform APIs: The functionality and available options may vary slightly depending on the specific APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) provided by each social media platform. We work hard to provide the most comprehensive and reliable auto-delete capabilities possible.
  • Review Your Settings Regularly: It’s a good practice to periodically review your auto-delete settings to ensure they still align with your preferences.

Take Back Control Today!

Managing your digital footprint should be easy and accessible. With redact.dev‘s new Disappearing Mode, you can proactively curate your online presence across multiple social media platforms, giving you greater peace of mind and control over your data.

Redact Disappearing Mode FAQ

What is Disappearing Mode in Redact?
Disappearing Mode is an automatic cleanup feature that removes new or aging posts and messages based on rules you set. It runs on a schedule so your accounts stay tidy without manual work.
Which platforms can Disappearing Mode manage?
Coverage varies by service. Common targets include social posts, replies, comments, likes, and messages where the platform allows removal by the account owner. Check the service list in Redact for current support.
How do I turn on Disappearing Mode for one account in Redact?
Open Redact and connect the service. Choose Disappearing Mode, pick targets like posts or messages, set filters, choose a schedule, run a Preview, then enable the plan. You can pause or edit it any time.
What filters can I use to control what gets deleted automatically?
Filter by age, date ranges, keywords, hashtags, mentions, media types, link presence, reactions, or score where available. Add whitelists for people, terms, or posts you want to keep.
Does Redact store my credentials or content on Redact servers when using Disappearing Mode?
No. Redact runs on your device and uses the minimum access required to execute your actions. You can disconnect any service at any time from Settings.
Does Disappearing Mode act in real time or on a schedule I choose?
It runs on a schedule that you set, for example daily or weekly. You can also launch a manual pass at any time if you want changes to happen sooner.
Can I exclude certain posts or conversations from automatic deletion?
Yes. Use whitelists for users, keywords, or links. You can also narrow by locations, folders, channels, or subcommunities where the platform supports those fields.
How does Redact handle rate limits or very large histories during automatic runs?
Redact batches actions and spaces requests to respect each platform. For long histories, use smaller date slices or multiple schedules to keep runs stable.
Is there a Preview or Select and Delete step before I commit to automation?
Yes. Run Preview to see matches with no changes. Use Select and Delete to approve a sample batch. When you are confident, enable scheduled deletion with the same rules.
What happens to attachments, embeds, and media after deletion?
Deleting a post removes the copy stored with that post on the platform. Files copied elsewhere or external links can remain outside the platform.
Can I pause, snooze, or change my Disappearing Mode schedule without losing settings?
Yes. You can pause any plan, snooze it for a short period, or edit filters and timing. Your saved rules remain in place until you delete the plan.
Does Redact provide an activity log for automated deletions?
Yes. View recent runs, counts of items removed, and any items skipped with reasons where available. Use this to refine filters for the next pass.
Can deleted items be restored later if I change my mind?
Most platforms do not offer a restore once content is deleted. Export archives first and start with a small approved batch to confirm your rules.
Will automatic deletion affect my account standing or visibility?
Removing your own content is normally allowed. Platforms have separate rules for spam, automation, and rate limits. Use Preview and moderate schedules to stay within limits.
Is Disappearing Mode available in the free version, and what does Premium add?
You can start for free with recent history on supported services. Premium unlocks all time ranges, more filters, multi account schedules, and larger batch sizes.
