Data brokers are companies that collect and sell your personal information, including your name, address, phone number, email, and more. This data is used for targeted advertising, but also enables identity theft, doxxing, stalking, and spam. Removing yourself from these sites significantly reduces your digital exposure.

Redact runs locally on your device. It searches people-search sites for listings that match your profile and submits the opt-out for you, as you, on most of them. A few brokers insist on verifying you themselves (by claiming an account, a phone call, or ID); for those, Redact hands you the opt-out link and checks you're gone on its next scan. One public-records site only accepts removal requests from residents of certain states. Removal is included with Premium and Ultimate.

The one server step is when a broker emails a confirmation link: those arrive in an inbox we generate for you, encrypted so only your app can open the link (our servers never read them), and we delete them once the removal completes. The sites it covers are US people-search and data-broker services, and removals rely on the opt-out processes and rights available to US residents (such as California's CCPA). If you're outside the US, Redact's social media and account-deletion tools still work, but data broker removal is US-focused for now.

On Premium and Ultimate, Redact re-scans every broker it covers on a regular schedule while the app is running. Removing your profile from data brokers often removes you from Google search results indirectly, because most people-search results on Google come from data broker sites. Once Redact removes your listings, those pages either delete your profile or return a 404, and Google drops them from the index over time.
