Remove Your Personal Information From Data Brokers

Data brokers are companies that collect and sell your personal information, including your name, address, phone number, email, and more. This data is used for targeted advertising, but also enables identity theft, doxxing, stalking, and spam. Removing yourself from these sites significantly reduces your digital exposure.

Redact runs locally on your device. It searches people-search sites for listings that match your profile and submits the opt-out for you, as you, on most of them. A few brokers insist on verifying you themselves (by claiming an account, a phone call, or ID); for those, Redact hands you the opt-out link and checks you're gone on its next scan. One public-records site only accepts removal requests from residents of certain states. Removal is included with Premium and Ultimate.

Most removal steps run on your device. Email opt-outs go from a profile alias through our servers and Mailgun. Our servers relay the requests in memory without storing them, but Mailgun may keep message copies and delivery records. Incoming confirmation emails are encrypted so only your app can read them. We never store your broker profile.

Removal times vary by broker; some process requests within hours, while others take days or weeks. Redact tracks the status of every request and checks the listing again on its next scheduled scan, marking it removed once it's gone.

This is extremely common. Brokers regularly re-collect and re-list personal information from public sources. On Premium and Ultimate, Redact re-scans on a regular schedule and opts you out again when a listing comes back, or hands you the link for the few brokers that verify you themselves.

Redact covers people-search sites, background check services, and data aggregators. Once you create your profile, the app lists every broker it checks and the status of each.

Redact requests removal of the whole listing a broker publishes about you, which typically includes your name, current and past addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, date of birth, relatives' names, property records, and photos.

Data broker removal won't stop spam from sources you've already given your info to (mailing lists you signed up for, services you've registered with), and it won't remove information from the original public records (court records, property records). It specifically removes your profile from third-party data brokers who republish and sell that information.

Opting out is something brokers invite: most publish their own process, and several states, including California, give residents a right to ask businesses to delete personal information collected from them. Redact uses each broker's own process.

Redact's data broker removal is built for people based in the US. The sites it covers are US people-search and data-broker services, and removals rely on the opt-out processes and rights available to US residents (such as California's CCPA). If you're outside the US, Redact's social media and account-deletion tools still work, but data broker removal is US-focused for now.

On Premium and Ultimate, Redact re-scans every broker it covers on a regular schedule while the app is running. When a broker re-lists your information (which happens constantly, since they re-scrape public records), Redact opts you out again, or hands you the link for the few brokers that verify you themselves.

Yes. Each profile covers one person. Free includes one profile for scanning. Premium includes two profiles, and Ultimate includes up to four. Premium and Ultimate include removal for each profile. We never store your broker profiles in our databases.

Removing your profile from data brokers often removes you from Google search results indirectly, because most people-search results on Google come from data broker sites. Once Redact removes your listings, those pages usually stop showing your profile, and Google tends to drop them over time.
