A Whitepages listing shows your full name, street address, age, current and past addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, relatives and your neighbours, to anyone, with no account and no payment. Getting out runs five screens and finishes with an automated voice call to a phone number you have to hand over during the request. Whitepages does not hold a listing back behind a paywall the way most of this directory does. Open a profile and the address, the age, the past addresses, the phone numbers, the email addresses, the relatives and the neighbours are all simply there.

The page title itself carries the street and the age, which is what a search engine shows in its results before anyone clicks. Further down, the page asks and answers its own questions under headings like Where does this person live and How old is this person, which is a shape built for search engines to index rather than for a reader to use.
The neighbours section is the one people do not expect. A listing does not only expose the person named at the top of it. It names the people living around them, which means somebody can be found through a neighbour's page without ever appearing in a search for their own name.
Whitepages describes the origin of all this on California's register as mostly public sources, including government agencies and state and local courts, and lists its purposes as fraud prevention, family safety, spam call detection, background vetting, and contacting people outside your inner circle.
411.com is the same database. The opt-out tool accepts a 411.com address as well as a Whitepages one, and decodes the identifier out of it to find the same person. If you have found yourself on either, one request covers what both were showing.

Being listed exposes people who never searched for themselves. The relatives and neighbours sections mean somebody can be reached through your page, and you can be reached through theirs. Removing your own listing does not remove you from a neighbour's.

Why does Whitepages want my phone number to remove my listing?
To verify you are the person in the listing. Its automated tool will not finish without a number it can call, and the page states the number will not be used for any purpose other than completing the request. If you would rather not give one, the same page offers two slower routes that do not need it: an online form to a support agent, or an email to privacyrequest@whitepages.com. Both are answered in about two business days.
Do I need an account or have to pay?
No, and Whitepages says so directly. You do not have to create an account or make a purchase to submit an opt-out request. The paid checkout you may land on while hunting for your profile is a separate product and nothing to do with the removal.
Does removing my listing delete my data?
No, and the difference matters. The opt-out takes the listing off the website and stops the sale and sharing of the information. Deletion is a separate right with a separate form, and Whitepages lists exceptions to it that cover a lot of ground, including public information from government agencies, property records, street address and criminal records.
I have more than one listing. Do I have to do this for each?
Not usually. Whitepages says that once a listing is removed, all known connected listings are removed too. The word doing the work there is known. If you later find another listing you believe is yours, its own instruction is to go to a support agent through the form or by email rather than back through the tool.
How long does it take?
A CCPA opt-out may take up to 15 days, though the page says requests are often processed faster where feasible. The agent and email routes are answered in about two business days, which is a reply rather than a completed removal.
Is Whitepages a registered data broker?
Yes. Whitepages, Inc. has been on California's data-broker register since February 12, 2020, filed from 2033 6th Avenue in Seattle. Its registry entry says the company was founded in 1996, while its own logo says it has served the US since 1997.
