How to Delete All Your Reddit Posts and Comments at Once

Reddit Has No Delete-All Button

You can't delete all your Reddit posts or comments at once inside Reddit. It only lets you delete them one at a time from your profile. To clear your whole history in one go you need a bulk tool. With Redact you connect your Reddit account, pick posts, comments or both, leave the date range on All time, preview what matched, and start the run. Run an edit pass first and delete afterwards, so scrapers that copy your posts from then on get gibberish instead of your words.

Deleting Posts the Normal Way

On the website, open your profile from your avatar and go to the Posts or Comments tab. Open the three-dot menu on an item, pick Delete and confirm. The app works the same way.

There's no select-all, so years of activity mean hundreds of rounds of menu, delete, confirm. Your profile also stops listing older items, so the oldest are hard to even find.

Deleting your account doesn't help. Your posts and comments stay up with the author shown as [deleted], so clear them out before you close the account.

Let Us Explain Our Mass Edit Tool

Yes, we know everyone hates this feature. We've apologized, and we keep apologizing, for all the late-night research sessions it has ruined. We understand your anger, but your anger is directed at the wrong people, the scraper sites that copy Reddit.

We have this feature because of scraper websites. These websites steal users' content and spread it all over the internet for their own monetary gain. Worse, you can't stop them copying. Even deleting your Reddit account doesn't stop them, because by then your content has already been stolen and uploaded to their own scraper websites.

The only way to combat this practice is to randomize your posts and comments. Then give the scraper sites time to re-index your posts, so they pick up the gibberish instead of your words. Copies they saved before your edit can stay up, but anything they collect after it is gibberish. Then, and only then, can you safely delete your Reddit account.

Delete It All with Redact

1. A

   Download Redact for free

   Get Redact from our download page. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, plus iOS and Android. Open it and create a free account to get started.

   Connect your Reddit account

   Add an account and pick Reddit, then sign in to Reddit. Your login goes straight to Reddit from your own device and never passes through a Redact server.

   Pick posts, comments or both

   The Easy form has a Posts button and a Comments button. Pick one or both for a full wipe, then set the Action to take switch to Edit or Delete.

   Edit can only rewrite text posts and comments. On a paid plan, an Edit run deletes your link and image posts in the same pass, since there's no text to rewrite. To keep them, use the Advanced form and tick only Text under Filter post types for the edit run.

   

   For more control, switch to the Advanced form. It has separate Posts, Comments and Chat Messages tabs. Each tab is its own run, so set up and run one, then do the next.

   Set the date range

   For your whole history, set the date range to All time through Now. To keep what you posted recently and clear the rest, pick an end date instead.

   Narrow it down, or protect what you want to keep

   Skip this step for a full wipe. Otherwise, the Advanced form has filters that narrow the run to exactly what you want gone and protect everything you'd rather keep.

   Subreddits to delete from, under Deletion Options, only touches posts in the subreddits you add, so you can clear one community and leave the rest. The Comments tab has its own box, so add the subreddit there too for your comments.

   

   Title keywords to delete and Post keywords pick out posts by the words in their titles or their body text. On the Comments tab, Comment keywords to delete does the same for comments, so one word can clear every comment you wrote about something.

   

   

   Flair keywords to delete only takes posts whose flair holds the words you add, handy for clearing every post you tagged one way in a subreddit.

   

   Filter post types limits the run to link posts, text posts or both, and NSFW Only limits it to the posts you tagged NSFW when you shared them.

   

   

   Engagement Filter only deletes items at or below the karma you set, so posts that did well can stay up while the ones nobody read are cleared.

   

   Enhanced scan also finds posts that blocked users have hidden from your profile. It doubles the scan time, so turn it on when a first run seems to have missed things.

   

   Subreddits to not delete from, under Preservation Options, works the other way round. Nothing posted in the communities you add here is touched, whatever else matches. Like the box above, the Comments tab has its own list.

   

   Offensive Classification under Local AI Smart Filters flags posts and comments likely to read as offensive today. It runs on your own device, and while it's on you review each match yourself before anything is changed or deleted.

   Reach your oldest comments

   Reddit doesn't hand over very old comments to apps, so the earliest years can be missing from a live scan. Your Reddit data export covers them. Open Reddit's data request page, pick the kind of request that fits where you live, choose I want data from my full time at Reddit and submit it. Reddit says it can take up to 30 days to send.

   

   When the .zip arrives, go to the Comments tab in Redact, turn on Import Data Package and pick the file. Redact reads your comments straight from the file, which covers the ones the scan can't see. An import run reads only the file, so run the Comments tab once more without it to catch anything you wrote after the export. The karma filter doesn't apply to imported comments.    Pick a mode and start

   • Preview Mode lists everything that matches and deletes nothing. Run it first, since it's the easy way to spot a post or comment you meant to keep.
   • Deletion Mode works through every match in one pass.
   • Review & Delete shows you the matches to go through before anything changes.
   • Schedule Deletion runs the same settings again on a recurring schedule, so new posts get cleared as they age. You can also set up Disappearing Mode, covered in our guide to deleting Reddit posts and comments automatically.

   

   Keep the app open until the run finishes. Reddit limits how fast any app can change your content, so a big history takes a while. For an edit and a delete, run the edit first and give the scraper sites a few weeks to pick up the gibberish. Then switch Action to take to Delete and run it again. On a live scan, if you filtered by keywords or Offensive Classification, clear them first, since the edited text no longer matches them. Without them the delete run covers everything in your date range and subreddits, so run it in Review & Delete and pick only the scrambled items. If you ticked only Text for the edit, tick Links again and pick your link and image posts too, since they were never scrambled. Comments from an imported export still show their original text, so for those, keep the same keyword filters and Offensive Classification on the delete run, so it picks out the same comments.

What's Free and What's Paid

The free plan edits every text post and comment you've ever made, with no date limit, and that includes comments from an imported data export.

Deleting them for good needs a Premium plan. So do deleting link and image posts, clearing chat messages, writing your own replacement text and scheduled runs.

Why Delete Your Old Reddit Posts

Reddit feels anonymous, but years of posts add up. Your city, your job, your hobbies and your opinions all sit in one profile, and it doesn't take much to tie that profile to your name.

Old posts also come back at bad times. Recruiters, clients and dates look people up, and a comment from ten years ago reads very differently with no context.
