Use the PeopleFinders opt-out to remove yourself from PrivateEye
PrivateEye is a downstream display surface. The actual data lives in the PeopleFinders backend - PeopleFinders supplies PrivateEye's records, and the free-preview "VIEW DETAILS" button on PrivateEye redirects users back to PeopleFinders for the paid unlock. So the removal that matters is the one at the source: the PeopleFinders opt-out, a flow this directory has walked and verified with screenshots. One caveat: PeopleFinders only processes opt-outs from residents of states with comprehensive consumer privacy laws (~19 states as of 2026) - see the troubleshooting note below if that gate rejects you.

PeopleFinders only honors opt-outs from residents of ~19 states. California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia - the states with enacted comprehensive consumer privacy laws as of May 2026. Residents of the other 31 states + DC will receive a rejection email at step 4 of the PeopleFinders flow stating "your state does not have a comprehensive consumer privacy law that applies." If your state is eligible: PeopleFinders first, PrivateEye-only as a belt-and-suspenders backstop because each brand maintains a separate suppression list. If your state is not eligible: PrivateEye-only is your primary path - it suppresses PrivateEye's display surface without going through the state-gated upstream flow. The upstream PeopleFinders record stays intact, but the PrivateEye listing comes down.
How removal works
Removal runs through PeopleFinders
PeopleFinders supplies PrivateEye with its data, so the submission that clears the record is PeopleFinders' own opt-out - a search-first, email-verified flow at peoplefinders.com/opt-out that this directory has walked and documented with screenshots. Follow the PeopleFinders removal guide: search by name and state, click Opt Out on your record, submit your email past the reCAPTCHA, and click the verification link they send. Removal is claimed within 72 hours, and each record needs its own submission if a common name or several past states return more than one.

Verify
Confirming it worked
Hour 0-72. Re-search your name on both peoplefinders.com and privateeye.com in an incognito window at the 72-hour mark. The PeopleFinders listing should be gone; the PrivateEye listing may follow on the next refresh cycle.
Day 7. Final check. If either surface still lists you, resubmit - and (800) 718-8997 is the escalation path for stuck submissions.
PeopleFinders rejected your state: PrivateEye publishes a form of its own at privateeye.com/removal that targets only its display surface. We haven't verified that form, so treat it as a last resort rather than a documented flow, and keep dated screenshots of whatever it shows you.
Check the rest of the Confi-Chek network. Save the confirmation pages and emails. PeopleFinders issues no case IDs - verification-email timestamps and confirmation screenshots are your only reference for escalation.
Stay off
Keep your data off PrivateEye (and the broader Confi-Chek network)
The PeopleFinders opt-out is the most consequential single submission. Because PeopleFinders is upstream of PrivateEye, Veromi, and PublicRecordsNow, clearing the PeopleFinders record at the source has the highest leverage of any single opt-out in the Confi-Chek network. Start there.
Cover the rest of the Confi-Chek network. Submit separate opt-outs at PrivateEye (this page), then veromi.com and publicrecordsnow.com, then on the 5-brand MTA sub-cluster: USA People Search, FastPeopleSearch, PeopleSearchNow, USPhoneBook, Advanced Background Checks.
Re-run the opt-outs annually. The Confi-Chek backend refreshes continuously from public-records sources. A successful opt-out today doesn't prevent a future refresh from re-indexing you. Annual re-submission is the maintenance cycle.
PrivateEye is one of many people-search display surfaces. Opting out across the Confi-Chek network doesn't propagate to independent operators like Spokeo, BeenVerified, Whitepages, MyLife, Intelius, or Radaris. Each has its own opt-out flow.
Address the public-records source. The PeopleFinders / Confi-Chek backend pulls from county court filings, property records, voter rolls, marriage and divorce records, and third-party data brokers. Where state law allows, opt out of voter-roll commercial sharing and request public-records redactions for safety reasons.
If you move, repeat the opt-out within 60-90 days. A new address creates a new public-records trail that the Confi-Chek backend picks up on its next refresh. The previously- suppressed identity gets paired with the new address, sometimes creating a fresh listing.
Take yourself off data broker sites
Redact scans 120+ data broker sites from your device, finds where your details are listed, and submits the removal requests for you. If a broker relists you, it files again.
August 11, 2026 · Rerouted on Hang-low's ruling: removal points wholly at PeopleFinders' verified opt-out. PrivateEye's own /removal form stays as an unverified last resort for rejected states. Originally written May 28, 2026.
