If you’ve noticed Instagram’s new Friends Reels tab showing your likes and comments to others, you might not be thrilled. By default, the feature can display your reel activity to friends or followers you follow back. The good news is you can turn it off in just a few taps.
Step-by-Step: How to Disable Friends Reels Activity
- Open Instagram and head to Settings
Tap your profile picture in the top right corner, scroll down, and select Settings and activity.

2. Find the Friends tab controls
Type in “friends tab” and tap the “Activity in Friends tab” option

3. Change your visibility settings
Under Who can see your likes and comments on reels in the Friends tab, select No one.

That’s it. Your reel activity will no longer be visible in the Friends tab to anyone else.
Why you should disable Instagram’s Activity in Friends tab feature
While the feature is designed to make content more social, it can also reveal your engagement habits to people you know. If you prefer to keep your activity private or avoid potential awkwardness over what you like or comment on, disabling it is a simple privacy win.
