How to Hide Your Liked Reels in Instagram's Friends Tab

The Friends tab at the top of Reels shows your friends the public reels you've liked, commented on or reposted. You can hide your likes and comments. Tap your profile, tap the menu (three lines), open Activity in Friends tab under Who can see your content, and pick No one. The default is Followers you follow back, and there's no way to remove the tab itself.

How to hide your liked reels from the Friends tab

Step 1 Open your settings

Tap your profile picture in the bottom right. Then tap the menu, the three lines in the top right corner, to open Settings and activity.

Step 2 Open Activity in Friends tab

Scroll down to Who can see your content and tap Activity in Friends tab. Searching "friends tab" in Settings and activity gets you there too.

Step 3 Pick No one

Change it from Followers you follow back to No one. The heading above both options reads "Who can see your likes and comments on reels in the Friends tab", so the setting only covers likes and comments.

Done. Your likes and comments on reels stop showing up in anyone's Friends tab, though you can still open the tab and see what your friends have been liking.

Reposts are separate. A reel you repost still goes out to your followers' feeds and shows up on your profile in a reposts tab of its own, separate from your posts and reels.

How to stop seeing a friend's activity

Muting works the other way round. It stops you seeing what a friend likes:

1. A Tap the friend's activity bubble on a reel in the Friends tab and open their profile.

2. B Tap Following, then Mute.

3. C Turn on muting for activity bubbles on content.

You still follow them. Their bubbles just stop showing up for you.

Why hide your activity in the Friends tab

Instagram added the Friends tab to Reels in August 2025. Since then, followers you follow back have been able to see which public reels you liked or commented on, which can lead to some awkward questions. If you'd rather keep that to yourself, set it to No one.
