Delete Messages from Encrypted Messenger Chats
Redact supports end-to-end encrypted chats when Messenger makes their history available. Some encrypted chats require your six-digit Messenger secure-storage PIN. The PIN is saved locally, and chats that cannot be unlocked are skipped while the rest of the cleanup continues.

Frequently asked questions
Choose one or more Messenger chats in the Redact desktop app, optionally narrow the messages by date, keyword, or attachment type, and start the cleanup. Redact deletes only messages you sent; received messages and the conversations themselves remain.
Redact can target all supported sent messages it finds in selected chats when you leave the date and keyword filters open and select every supported attachment category. It does not delete received messages, remove conversations from your chat list, or erase messages written by other participants.
Redact uses Messenger's Unsend option whenever it is available, but Messenger does not offer it for every message. When only Remove for you is available, the message disappears from your view while other participants keep their copy. Redact shows which outcome occurred for each message.
Yes. Select a start date, an end date, or both, and add words or phrases that matching messages must contain. Preserve keywords protect messages you want to keep. Date and keyword rules can also be combined with attachment filters.
It may. Redact must open selected conversations to find matching messages, and Messenger can mark those chats as read during any type of run. This can happen even when no messages are deleted.
Yes. Redact can target sent messages containing images, videos, or link embeds, as well as text messages with no attachment. Voice messages, files, and other unsupported attachment types are excluded.
Yes, when Messenger makes the encrypted history available. Some chats require your six-digit Messenger secure-storage PIN. Redact stores the PIN locally and skips chats that cannot be unlocked while continuing with the conversations it can access.
