Questions

No. It's read in this browser tab on your device and never leaves it.

Followers

See who doesn't follow you back

Your download has your followers and everyone you follow. The viewer holds the two lists against each other, with no login and no password, and tells you how many files and accounts it read so you can check the count against the numbers shown on your profile.

  • Who doesn't follow you back, who you don't follow back, and who's on both lists
  • Every follower file read and joined
  • Search, sort by date or name, copy the usernames or save a CSV
Chats

Read a chat from its first message

Every chat in the download, busiest first, with how many messages it holds and how many are yours. Open one and it starts at the first message, which Instagram's own pages make you scroll for. A chat that Instagram split across several files reads as one.

  • Every chat, message requests included
  • Oldest or newest first, with the sender and time on every message
  • Emoji and all languages, as typed
Search and print

Find what you said, and keep a copy

Look up a name, an address or a phone number across everything at once. Each match opens the chat it came from. When you need a chat on paper, pick the days, see how many pages it comes to, and print it or save it as a PDF through your browser.

  • One search across every chat
  • Print a chat or save it as a PDF
  • Download any chat or list as a CSV table
The patterns

See when the talking happens

The same messages, laid out by time and by person. See which hours your chats are busiest and who you write to most. Every chart can be switched to another view or to a plain table of all the numbers behind the chart.

  • Messages by month, by hour and by day of the week, yours in the darker shade
  • Who you talk to most, and how much of every chat you wrote yourself
  • The first message, the busiest day and the longest run of days

How it works

Three steps. Whichever format Instagram gave you, it opens.

1. Ask Instagram for your data
On a computer, open Instagram, click More, then Settings, then Accounts Center. Open Your information and permissions, then Export your information, and click Create export. Pick your profile and then Export to device.
2. Set the date range to All time
The export starts on Last year, which leaves out older messages and followers, so change Date range to All time. Leave Format as it is or pick JSON. Both open here. Click Start export, and Instagram emails you when it's ready.
3. Drop it on this page
Drop the ZIP in the box above, or every ZIP if it came in parts. There's no need to unzip anything first. Your browser reads it where it sits, so nothing is uploaded, however large it is, and there's no login or password to type in at any point.

Built to stay on your device

A download is who you follow and every chat you've had. It's treated that way.

The download never leaves your device
Your browser reads the download where it sits, on your own computer. Nothing is uploaded to Redact or anyone else. Turn off your internet after the page loads and it all still works the same.
No login, no password
The viewer reads the files in your download, so you don't need to enter an Instagram password or sign in.
Nothing on the page is a link
Usernames, messages and web addresses are shown as plain text. Photos and videos aren't opened at all. There's nothing to click that would send what's in your download anywhere else.
