The Problem of Old Social Media Content

So, how long have you been using the internet? 10 years? 20? More? Over time we build up a ton of history or “footprint”, mostly on the main social media platforms such as Facebook and Reddit, or the newer platforms like Snapchat and Instagram. As time goes on, the amount of social media accounts with your info on them keeps growing. The issue with that is when you start talking about things you did and said a decade ago or even just 5 years ago, it’s likely way different than what you are doing and saying these days. Further, society changes by the month, in terms of what’s to be said or not said. Instead of playing the what-if or let’s wait and see game, why not address the issue head -on and actually do something about it proactively?

So, what’s the solution?

Well, you could go and just start mass deleting your content from every inch of the internet. But that’s not a great option for most people as they don’t want to get rid of all their memories and old content.

There’s a better option, an awesome app which allows you to do a mass automatic deletion of all your content across all platforms, all at one time. But it get’s even better. So, in addition to being able to do an auto mass deletion of your content, you can also to a precision strike, so to say. Basically, the app can go into all your social media accounts hunting for specific types of content, which is determined by you in your filter settings.

With Redact, you can use various filters to identify content very precisely down to a specific date or keyword.

  • search specific dates – Do you have a specific date in mind you’d like to check? You can do it easily.
  • search date ranges – Perhaps you had a bad weed a few months ago. You went on social media to vent. Now you need to wipe that week from history.
  • search by username or page name – You can search only for content posted to a specific page, server, or a specific users profile.
  • search for specific word(s) – This is the most common and effective way to hunt for old content you want removed. Chances are, you already know the person’s name or the word that was used. Enter one or more words in the custom keyword field and find all your old content that mentions that specific word(s).
  • search using built-in keyword lists – Redact comes with built-in keyword lists based on swears, ableism, racism, sexism, and politics.
