Cleaning up your Twitter history can be essential for maintaining your privacy and presenting your best self online. Here’s a detailed guide to help you delete all your tweets efficiently.
The process for this is a little different depending on how many tweets you have. If you have over 1k tweets to delete, use step 3b instead of 3a. Let’s get started!
Step 1: Download Redact.dev (for free)
- Visit Redact.dev to get started.
- Download and install the app on your computer (available for both Windows and macOS).
- Open the app and create a free account to begin.
Step 2: Log In to Your Twitter Account
- Open Redact.dev and select the Twitter option from the list of supported platforms.
- Follow the instructions to link your Twitter account. You’ll need to authorize Redact.dev to access your account securely.

Step 3a: Set Your Deletion Criteria (for under 1k tweets)
- Once logged in, you’ll see options to filter the tweets you want to delete. Choose from:
- Date range (e.g., tweets older than a specific date).
- Keywords (e.g., specific topics or words you want removed).
- For a complete wipe, leave the filters blank and proceed to select “Delete All Tweets.”

Step 3b: Deletion Criteria (for over 1k tweets)
- Twiter (formely known as X) has limitations which impact deletion services. Redact will notify you when you exceed these limits with a banner on the Twitter service page.
- If you want to delete over 1k tweets, we recommend requesting your Twitter archive and importing it into Redact’s desktop app for a smoother experience. Please note that importing files is a Premium feature and isn’t available for free users. Using the app, you’ll be able to delete tweets within Twitter’s allowed threshold. However, for older tweets, you might encounter issues unless you import the archive file.
Step 4: Preview and Confirm Deletions
- Before deletion, you can preview your tweets to ensure you’re not removing anything you want to keep.
- Once ready, click “Start Deletion.”

Step 5: Let Redact.dev Do the Work
- Redact.dev will now work through your Twitter history and delete all tweets that match your criteria.
- Keep the app running until the process is complete to ensure no tweets are missed.
Take control of your Twitter (formely known as X) presence today. Download Redact.dev and start cleaning up your online history with ease!
