How to opt out of UnMask

  • Redact finds listings · manual opt-out

UnMask's opt-out runs through its Suppression Center, the same form CheckPeople uses. It suppresses a listing and doesn't delete the record behind it. It asks for an email address, sends a link, takes your date of birth and your legal name, and then searches for your record. We walked those four screens on August 11, 2026. The search had nothing to return for our walker, who isn't listed on UnMask, so this guide covers the form up to that point and tells you what to do if it finds nothing for you either.

The form

Four screens, then your record

01

Enter an email address

The Suppression Center opens on a single email box and a tick beside the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Continue is greyed out while the email box is empty.

02

Click the link UnMask emails you

The page changes to a note saying an email has gone to the address you gave. The form picks up again from the link inside it.

03

Set your date of birth

Next is Date of Birth, with a box to tick confirming the date is correct and can't be changed once saved. UnMask's own note calls the birthdate "critical" to matching the right records.

04

Enter your legal name

Legal Name takes a first, middle and last name and a tick beside This is my legal name. UnMask then looks for records with that name and that birthdate. If it finds yours, select it and follow the site from there. That's the part we couldn't walk, since our walker has no UnMask record.

If it finds nothing

No record, or no match

  • Check whether you're listed at all. Search your name on UnMask. No listing means there was nothing to opt out of.

  • Listed, but the form found nothing. The name or birthdate UnMask holds may not be the one you entered. Email compliance@unmask.com, the privacy contact on UnMask, LLC's California registration, with your name, the city and state on the listing and its web address.

  • In California, use DROP too. UnMask, LLC is on the state's data broker registry, so a request filed through DROP reaches it without the form.

  • Don't start again with a second email address in the hope of a different result. The match runs on name and birthdate, and a new inbox doesn't change either.

CheckPeople holds the same data

UnMask says its search is powered by CheckPeople, and the two sites' opt-out forms are the same software with different branding. They file with California as separate companies, UnMask, LLC and CheckPeople, LLC, each with its own privacy address. So doing this on one does nothing at the other. Run both, and see the CheckPeople guide for its form.

Take yourself off data broker sites

Redact scans data broker sites from your device, finds where your details are listed, and submits the removal requests for you. If a broker relists you, it files again.

October 5, 2026 · Walked on August 11, 2026 through the Legal Name screen, using four of its screenshots. The walk went no further because our walker isn't listed on UnMask, so there was no record to select. That isn't a fault in the form. On October 5, unmask.com put a human check in front of our recheck, so the screens here are as they were in August. California's data broker registry, read the same day, supplied the operator and its contacts.
