UnMask

  • Redact finds listings · manual opt-out

A free people-search site whose search is, by its own account, "powered by CheckPeople.com". California's data broker registry lists it under UnMask, LLC of Orlando, Florida, separately from CheckPeople's operator. It shows names, contact details, addresses, relatives, and criminal, court and property records. Its BBB profile carries a B- rating (not accredited) with 195 complaints in three years, and its opt-out is the same Suppression Center CheckPeople runs.

Each broker is scored 1 to 4 across the six dimensions above; higher means more exposure, and the overall gauge is their average.

What each dimension means
  • Data published: how much and how sensitive the personal data they put out.
  • Re-listing frequency: how quickly you reappear after opting out.
  • Complaint record: the volume and pattern of complaints across BBB, Trustpilot, and Sitejabber. No listing, or a listing with no reviews, counts against the broker.
  • Opt-out friction: how hard the removal process is to complete.
  • Operator opacity: how hidden the operating company and its principals are.
  • Prior data incidents: history of breaches or leaks of the data they hold.

The CheckPeople relationship matters most when you try to leave. UnMask runs the same Suppression Center as CheckPeople, in its own colours, and it asks for the same things, which are an email address, a birthdate and a legal name. Because the two file with California as separate companies, a request sent to one never reaches the other.

The BBB profile is the most documented outside record. The Orlando BBB filing carries a B- letter rating without accreditation, classifies the business as "Searchers of Records", and shows 195 complaints filed against the business in the last 3 years. The BBB profile was created June 13, 2023. The named contact on file is generic ("Customer Service Manager") and not a specific individual.

The common UnMask response to BBB complaints is structural deflection. Per BBB-documented response patterns, UnMask's standard reply to data-removal complaints is that the company aggregates from publicly available sources and therefore "has no ability to edit or remove the content listed on your report." That framing positions UnMask as a passive aggregator rather than an operator with control over the data - useful for limiting liability, less useful for users trying to actually remove a listing.

The CheckPeople settlement is worth knowing about. The Gaul v. CheckPeople, LLC Illinois Right of Publicity Act class action settled for $2.6 million in October 2024, over the use of Illinois residents' identifying data to advertise paid subscriptions. It named CheckPeople, LLC, not UnMask, but it concerned the data UnMask says its search runs on. See the CheckPeople profile for the case.

From upstream CheckPeople

Per-record fields UnMask displays from the upstream CheckPeople backend:

  • AgeSensitive
  • Current and previous addresses (street, city, state)Sensitive
  • Phone numbers (landline and mobile)

  • Criminal recordsSensitive
  • Court records and arrest recordsSensitive
  • Property ownership records
  • Professional license records
  • Social media account links when matched

Where the data comes from: The upstream CheckPeople data backend, which aggregates US public-records sources - state and county court filings, property records, voter registration files, marriage and divorce records, professional-licensing boards, criminal-justice records - plus third-party people-data aggregator feeds. UnMask itself functions as a display surface over that backend rather than maintaining a separate data store.

Sealed or expunged cases can still show up. UnMask draws on CheckPeople's court data, so a case a court has since sealed may still appear on a listing. Take a dated screenshot of it before you ask for removal.

Runs on CheckPeople

UnMask says its search is powered by CheckPeople.com, and the two sites run the same Suppression Center. California's registry lists them as separate Orlando companies, UnMask, LLC and CheckPeople, LLC.

Related broker: CheckPeople

UnMask's search is powered by CheckPeople.com, by UnMask's own account. Each site has its own opt-out form and its own registered privacy contact, so an opt-out request has to go to both. Slatkis, Inc., which manages CheckPeople, also oversees at least one more Florida LLC (Trazi Ventures, LLC) at CheckPeople's Orlando address. The full scope of Slatkis-managed properties isn't publicly disclosed.

FAQ

Q & A

Common questions
Is UnMask a data broker?

Yes. UnMask.com is a free people-search site that shows full names, aliases, phone numbers, email addresses, current and previous addresses, relatives and associates, criminal records, court records, property ownership records, professional license records, and social media account links. The BBB classifies the business under "Searchers of Records", and UnMask, LLC is on California's data broker registry. Its search is powered by CheckPeople.com.

Who owns UnMask?

California's data broker registry lists the operator as UnMask, LLC of Orlando, Florida. UnMask says its search is powered by CheckPeople, whose operator, CheckPeople, LLC, files separately from another Orlando address. The Orlando BBB profile for UnMask was created June 13, 2023 and lists only a "Customer Service Manager" as contact.

What information does UnMask publish?

Per-record fields published on UnMask include full name and aliases, age, current and previous addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, names of likely relatives and associates, criminal records, court records, property ownership records, professional license records, and social media account links when matched. Data is sourced from public-records aggregation and the upstream CheckPeople data backend - UnMask's search functionality is powered by CheckPeople.com per its own documentation.

Can I remove myself from UnMask?

You can opt out, through its Suppression Center at unmask.com/opt-out. That suppresses your listing and stops UnMask selling or sharing it, without deleting the record. It takes an email address, a birthdate that's permanent once saved, and your legal name, then shows the records that match for you to select. We walked it up to that search on August 11, 2026. If it finds nothing for a listing you can see, write to compliance@unmask.com, which UnMask, LLC gave California as its privacy address. CheckPeople has to be done separately. Our UnMask removal guide shows each screen.

How long does UnMask take to remove information?

UnMask doesn't state one that we've seen. UnMask, LLC's California filing reports a 1-day median for the opt-out requests it handled in 2024, which is the company's own number.

Is UnMask covered by FCRA?

No. UnMask explicitly disclaims Consumer Reporting Agency status. Its data legally can't be used for FCRA-covered decisions including employment screening, tenant screening, credit decisions, or insurance underwriting. The applicable framework is state privacy law, such as the CCPA and CPRA in California.

Take yourself off data broker sites

Redact scans data broker sites from your device, finds where your details are listed, and submits the removal requests for you. If a broker relists you, it files again.
