Questions about tracking links
It's an extra piece added after the question mark in a web address, like ?utm_source=newsletter or &fbclid=.... The page works without it. It's there so the site, an ad network or the app you shared from can tell where a visit came from, and sometimes which person shared the link with you.
YouTube adds si when you copy a link with the Share button. It's a share ID, which can let YouTube tell that the people opening the link got it from the same share. Taking it off doesn't change the video. A start time, written as t, is left alone because it's part of what you meant to share.
It's the share ID Instagram adds when you use Copy link. It can connect the link back to the account that shared it. The post still opens exactly the same without it.
It stands for Facebook click ID. Facebook adds it to links you click out of Facebook or Instagram, and the site you land on can hand it back to Facebook to match your visit to your account. It's safe to remove, and the page you were heading to opens exactly the same without it.
It should. The tool only removes tags that are known to be for tracking and leaves everything else, including tags it doesn't recognize. If a clean link ever opens the wrong page, go back to the original link for that one, since any site can change what its tags do without warning.
The tool can remove known tracking tags from a short link, but it can't expand the link or check the destination. The tool never opens links. To clean the destination link, open the short link yourself and paste the address from your browser's address bar.
No. The tool removes known tracking tags, but other parts of the link may still identify you or the person who shared it. The site still sees your IP address and any cookies it has set.
No. The link is read and rewritten by your browser on this page. It isn't sent to Redact or anyone else, it isn't opened, and the clean link is shown as plain text for you to copy.
