How to Delete Your Medium Comments

Every comment you've left on a Medium story stays there, under your name, until you remove it. Clearing them by hand means opening each one, which gets slow once you've got a few years of them. Redact's Medium tool deletes your comments in bulk, and you can narrow a run to a publication you manage, a date range or a keyword first.

One thing to know before you start. Redact deletes the comments you've left on stories, which Medium calls responses. It doesn't delete the stories you've published yourself.

Why Delete Old Medium Comments?

Your comments are public. They sit under the stories you replied to, and anyone who looks you up can read them. An opinion you posted years ago can still be the first thing somebody finds.

Redact gives you a few ways to deal with them.

  • Delete years of Medium comments in one run
  • Limit a run to the publications you manage
  • Limit a run to a date range, or to comments that contain certain words
  • Preview what matches before anything is deleted

Please note: mass deleting your Medium comments with Redact requires a Redact Ultimate subscription. You can try Redact for free on Twitter/X, Discord, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and many more platforms!

1. Download and Install Redact

First, head over to Redact.dev and download the app. Redact for Medium runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, and on iOS and Android.

Go to redact.dev and click Download located in the top right corner

2. Connect Your Medium Account

In Redact, choose Medium from the list of supported platforms, then log in to Medium when you're asked to.

Your login credentials are never captured or viewed by the Redact app. They are sent directly from your device to Medium, without passing through or being stored on any Redact servers. The login functions just like a saved login in your browser, staying only on your device.

In Redact.dev, select Medium from the list of supported platforms.

3. Pick Your Publications

The Publication Selector lists the publications you manage. Select one or more and Redact only deletes the comments you left on their stories.

  • Leave it empty to have Redact look at every comment you've made
  • With a publication selected, comments on stories outside your chosen publications are left alone
  • Click the red Reset text to clear your selection

4. Filter by Date Range

If you only want to delete Medium comments from a specific time period, Redact.dev supports date range filters.

Use the date filter to:

  • Set a Start Date to delete comments made after that day
  • Set an End Date to delete comments made before that day
  • Set Both to delete comments made between the two dates

You can use the presets, or click the calendar icon to choose by day, month, or year. Click the red Reset text to clear your filter.

5. Filter by Keyword

Want to delete only the comments that mention something specific? Open the deletion options and use Text Search, which only deletes comments that contain your keywords.

  • Type a word and click Add
  • Add more than one and a comment that contains any of them is a match
  • Redact matches full words only, so "cat" won't match "catalog"

This is handy for clearing comments on a topic you've changed your mind about, or ones that mention something personal.

6. Start Deleting

Redact offers four ways to run a cleanup:

  • Preview: See which comments match your filters before anything is deleted
  • Review and Delete: Go through the matches and choose which comments to remove
  • Deletion: Delete every matching comment in one go
  • Schedule: Repeat the cleanup automatically, so older comments keep getting removed

If you want to wipe every comment on your Medium account, skip the filters and go straight to Deletion. Deleted comments can't be brought back. We recommend running a preview first, to make sure you don't delete anything you want to keep.
