How to Delete Discord DMs in Bulk from Both Sides [Redact Tutorial]

Unlike many social media apps, Discord allows users to remove their own messages from BOTH sides of the conversation. This is actually the exception, and not the rule.
On most social media sites, when you delete a private message you sent it only deletes from YOUR side of the conversation. On Discord, it deletes your messages from both sides.
Great, right? Not so fast. Although Discord has graced us with the option to delete direct messages from both sides of a chat, they forgot to add the option for doing it in bulk. So basically, you have to go message by message deleting each one. Message by message. Clearly this is not an efficient use of your time. And depending on how long your chat history is, it may not even be doable.
Enter Redact! Redact allows you to mass delete your DMs, from both sides of the conversation. Discord blessed everyone with the option to delete DMs you’ve sent from both ends, and we’ve made it even better by allowing you to do it automatically, and in bulk.
Here’s How to Do It:
When you open up the Redact Discord Tool, switch over to the DMs tab from the servers tab. This will mean your deletion applies to your direct messages only.
You will be presented with a list of all the people you have had direct messages with. Scroll down and located the DM you’d like to target for removal. You can also target multiple DMs at the same time, but for this tutorial we are going to focus on removing messages from a single user.

After you choose the user(s) you want to target, you will be presented with a date range picker.

The default date settings will mass remove all of the messages you sent to the users you selected in the previous step, from the very beginning of your conversation with them. You can adjust the date range settings using absolute or relative dates. There are also a few quick selectors for both start and end date so you can quickly mass delete the last week, month, or year worth of content.
Skip Deletion Options

The next set of choices you have are under the “deletion options”. These allow you to refine your deletion (and preservation) settings even further. For the purpose of deleting your entire DM history, you can leave all these set to default.
Once you scroll past all the deletion options, you will be at the bottom of the app and will be able to choose what to do with the message.

Use preview mode to look over the message history that you are about to remove. If it looks good, click over to deletion mode and start deleting.
Keep in mind, this will mass delete yours DMs with this person (or people) in bulk and automatically. Once you push the “start deleting” button, your DM history with this person will be removed from both sides forever. Make sure there is nothing within the conversation you need because it will be gone forever.
You can also use the Redact’s Discord Tool to bulk delete DM conversations from multiple users at once. And yes, you will be removing your direct messages from both sides of the conversation.
