How to Delete All Your Slack DMs
If you’ve ever tried to delete all of your Slack DMs manually, you already know: it’s slow, tedious, and feels never-ending. Slack doesn’t make it easy to delete old direct messages, especially if you have years of conversations piling up. Not to mention the fact that your boss can read your Slack messages – even after you leave a company.
That’s where Redact.dev comes in – Redact lets you delete all Slack DMs at once, with a few clicks.
You can even use powerful filter settings to bulk delete Slack DMs in specific date ranges, or with particular keywords. If you’re looking to wipe your entire Slack history, Redact is the most effective way to get it done.
Please note – mass deleting your Slack DMs requires a Redact Ultimate subscription. You can try Redact for free on Twitter/X, Discord, Reddit and Facebook!

You can use the RESET button to clear selections and start over.

4. Filter By Date Range (Optional)
If you don’t want to delete all your Slack messages with a user, you can use the date range filter to delete messages from within a period of time.
You can use this to mass delete Slack DMs from specific weeks, months, years, or date ranges. Whether you’re cleaning up a particularly stressful project session, or just last year’s chat history – Redact gives you full control over mass Slack message deletion.
- Start Date: Delete messages sent after this date.
- End Date: Delete messages sent before this date.
- Pro tip: Click month or year labels to quickly navigate through your timeline.

5. Filter By Keyword (Optional)
If you’re worried about sensitive topics, Redact lets you target keywords in your Slack DM mass deletion.
Whether it’s conversations about “HR”, all your messages with a specific coworker’s name, or just some accidental, unprofessional messages you’ve sent – simply enter the matching keywords, and Redact will only delete messages that contain them.

6. Preview and Confirm
Before deleting, we recommend you use Redact.dev’s Preview Mode to review which messages will be removed. You can also use select and delete mode – which takes a bit longer, but lets you review, select and bulk delete your messages in batches.

7. Start Deleting
You’re ready to go! Just click “Start Deleting” and let Redact.dev take care of the rest. Keep the app open until the process is complete.
