Your Instagram profile says a lot about you. Over the years, it can become a mix of personal moments, half-finished captions, inside jokes, or posts that just don’t reflect who you are anymore. If your old content doesn’t align with your goals, deleting it manually can be a slow, frustrating process.

Redact makes it easy to bulk-delete Instagram posts with smart filters, so you stay in control without wasting hours scrolling.

Note – to delete Instagram content with Redact, you need a premium subscription. You can try Redact for free on Facebook, Reddit, Twitter, and Discord.

Why Delete Old Instagram Posts?

People delete posts for different reasons, but some common ones include:

  • You’ve changed and old posts don’t reflect who you are now
  • You’re applying for a job or school and want a cleaner image
  • Your profile looks cluttered or inconsistent
  • You’ve grown your brand and want a fresh start
  • You want to remove posts with low engagement or old captions

No matter your reason, clearing out older content can help you feel more confident about what you’re sharing publicly.

How Redact Helps You Delete Instagram Posts Easily

Redact connects directly with your Instagram account and lets you choose exactly which posts to remove based on filters you control.

Here’s how it works:

1. Download Redact.dev

Go to Redact.dev and download the app for Windows or macOS. Create an account for free.

Go to redact.dev and click Download located in the top right corner

Redact also supports iOS and Android devices all from a single account & subscription.

2. Connect Your Instagram Account

Once you launch Redact.dev and log in, choose Instagram from the list of supported platforms.

You’ll be prompted to log in through Instagram. Your login details are never seen or stored by Redact. They’re sent directly from your device to Instagram, just like a saved login in your browser. Everything stays local to your device.

3. Select “Post” as the Content Type

When starting a cleanup, choose “Post” in Redact’s platform selector. This tells Redact to only target your standard image and video posts — not Reels, Stories, or Carousels.

Filters to Make Post Deletion Smarter

Redact includes advanced filters that let you pinpoint which posts to delete, saving time and reducing mistakes.

1. Filter by Date Range

If you only want to delete Reels from a certain time period:

  • Choose a start date to delete content made after that point
  • Choose an end date to delete content made before that point
  • Use the calendar tool to quickly pick a specific day, month, or year

To reset the filter, click the red “Reset” button.

The Redact App allows you to delete pictures and comments by specific date ranges. Deletion can be specified by start date (only delete after this date) or end date (only delete before this date). When you press the calendar icon, a calendar will appear. By default, it’ll take you to the current date, but you can easily change this. You can click the title at the top to select from a list of months, or click it twice to select from a list of nearby years. Alternatively, you could click the left and right arrows to skip around to adjacent months. When you have the correct month and year, you just click the day and you’re done. If you want to start over, just tap the reset button in red text.

2. Delete Posts Based on Caption Text

You can choose to delete posts that include specific words or phrases in the caption.

Example: Remove posts with “senior trip,” “#YOLO,” or “high school days” if you’re trying to clean up old content.

3. Delete Posts Based on Like Count

Set a range for how many likes a post must have to be deleted. This helps remove posts that didn’t perform well or that went unexpectedly viral.

Example: Delete posts with fewer than 20 likes to clean out low-engagement content.

4. Delete Posts Based on Comment Count

Filter posts by how many comments they received. Use this to delete posts with no interaction or to remove those that drew unwanted attention.

Example: Remove posts with 0 comments, or those with 200+ comments that turned into arguments.

5. Preserve Posts with Specific Words in the Caption

You can also protect important content by telling Redact to keep posts that contain specific phrases.

Example: Keep any posts that mention “portfolio,” “graduation,” or “promotion” while deleting everything else.

6. Choose Your Deletion Mode

Redact offers four deletion modes to fit your needs – so you can mass delete Posts with as much (or as little) precision as you want.

  • Preview Mode – this lets you see all results based on your filters, before you delete anything.
  • Review & Delete Mode – this lets you preview all Posts, and bulk-select as many as you want for permanent deletion.
  • Deletion Mode – instantly erases all Posts based on your filters.
  • Schedule Deletion – allows you to automate ongoing Posts deletion based on your filters.

We recommend previewing before running a full deletion to avoid accidental

Why Redact Is Better Than Doing It Manually

Instagram doesn’t offer tools to delete multiple posts at once or to filter them based on engagement or text. Redact simplifies this process by giving you full control with just a few clicks.

You can preview every post before deleting, filter your content however you want, and even schedule regular cleanups. No endless scrolling or second-guessing required.
