Unlike our other services, getting Redact to connect to your inbox takes a little bit more work than just logging in. While it can seem overwhelming at first, it’s a relatively simple process if you know what you’re doing. This tutorial will give you a detailed description of how to connect the Redact client to your inbox for the most popular email providers.

Google Mail

To grant Redact access to your Gmail inbox, you first need to enable less secure applications. You can find a link to how to do that right here! You do not have to permanently enable this, and it’s recommended that you turn disable less secure applications immediately after logging in with the Redact client.

After this, go to Redact and input the following information in the IMAP service page.

  • IMAP Server: imap.gmail.com
  • Port: 993
  • Username: your email address
  • Password: your email password
  • SSL: enabled

Input the information, hit Log In, and ta-da! Easy as pie.

Yahoo Mail

For Yahoo mail, you need to get yourself a temporary password.

First, navigate to account info by clicking on your profile picture in the upper right. Afterwards, go to Account Security on the left bar. One that page, scroll down to Generate and manage app passwords, and then follow the instructions Yahoo gives you!

After this, go to Redact and input the following information in the IMAP service page.

  • IMAP Server: imap.mail.yahoo.com
  • Port: 993
  • Username: your email address
  • Password: your app password generated by Yahoo
  • SSL: enabled

After that, you’re done! No sweat.

Outlook Mail

Just like Google and Yahoo, you need to lower some security to allow Redact to access your inbox. This can be done temporarily, and you can find out how to do that right here.

After this, you go to Redact and input the following information in the IMAP service page.

  • IMAP Server: outlook.office365.com
  • Port: 993
  • Username: your email address
  • Password: your email password
  • SSL: enabled

Bada bing bada boom, you’re in business!

General instructions

While this is great for people who use these platforms, you may feel a bit lost if you don't. Here’s a quick list of procedures to find out how to connect with any email provider.

  • First, search “(email provider) IMAP settings” in your browser of choice
  • Second, input the provided information in the Redact client
  • If it doesn’t work, search how to temporarily lower your security settings. This will be very service dependent.
  • If that doesn’t work, feel free to go to redact.dev/discord and ask for some help!
